Kitchen Renovation: Part 7
All the details are queued up, some have even been placed, but all else in our kitchen renovation seems to be at a total stand still. Delayed cabinetry, drawers and electrical issues put the project in limbo at a time when we're all so ready for it to be DONE. Thankfully, in the interim, I have these brass beauties to cuddle and to keep me focused on the vision of our brand new kitchen.
If all goes as planned, the drawers and the cabinet faces will be installed tomorrow. Let's keep things moving!!
Found Art
Over the weekend, our son Max found an abstract watercolor that I had considered lost during our move to California almost 2 years ago. He actually uncovered it under our guest room bed. I was super delighted at this discovery, even more so when I realized how good the piece looks in our new place. Being in itself an amazing mid-century icon, it fits perfectly into our new home. 'Til Monday: A Favorite Day Of The Week
You may think my favorite day of the week is Friday, but it's really not. It's actually Wednesday. Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30pm to be exact. During that time the boys take their brass lessons and Zoe is in a ceramic's class, all three just steps away from each other AND my favorite area restaurant. For that hour, while our children are doing something they love, I sit alone with a book and the NYT magazine that I never seem to get to on a Sunday. Depending on my mood I order either coffee or a beer. Moments like these are rare in our busy lives. With three very active children pulling us in different directions, having them all close by at any given time is a feat. I relish being by myself during that hour, but the moment they all walk into the restaurant after their respective lessons, I'm over the moon with joy to see them. Having just a moment in time to one's self [doing almost nothing] can be quite invigorating...
Here's to everyone having a favorite day/moment of the week. What's yours?!
7 Beautiful Brass Sconces
Now that I've added brass accents to our soon completely renovated kitchen, I'm looking forward to integrating a few brassy accents to other areas of our home. Since the hallway that joins the bedrooms and bathrooms is visible from the kitchen, it's logically the first place to focus on. Currently, the chandelier sconces that worked rather nicely with our Cambridge home decor don't blend so well with our Mid-century Cali one, so I'm rather keen on replacing them quickly. Here are 7 of my favorite fixtures for the corridor (some I like more than others). Can you guess which one is at the top of my list?!?
1. Galliano Wall Fixture Sconce, 2. Arteriors Home Maxim Light, 3. Dwell Studio Devoe Sconce, 4. Hinkley Margeaux Multi Bulb Wall Sconce, 5. Hudson Valley Lighting Walton 1 Wall Light, 6. Bestlite's BL7 Wall Sconce, 7. Rejuvenation Momo Single Sconce
Planting With A Purpose
Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting members of the CAPC (Child Abuse Prevention Council) for a demonstration on how to create and care for a succulent planter. The lesson yielded 22 planters that will serve as center pieces for the organization's upcoming fundraising event. Using textured metallic vessels and three distinct types of succulents, the group dug in and carefully arranged and planted them to create stunning additions to their luncheon's table settings. Many thanks to its members for including Cocoon Home Design in this week's event. I'm honored to be part of this great cause.
