Employ, Educate And Empower With Jjangde's Hand Woven Home Goods And Reader Giveaway!

It's with great pride that I share with you Jjangde, a company that is dedicated to strengthening West African communities by employing women, educating children and empowering rural villagers.  When I was first contacted by the company's co-founder, I was struck by the beauty of the hand woven home goods Jjandge offers but it was their mission statement that REALLY got me.  Today Jjangde launches its new website which explains the history of the company, introduces its artisans and showcases the one-of-a-kind baskets that create opportunity and hope for many in need.

In gratitude for taking the time to learn about the company and its mission,  Jjangde is offering a lovely basket as a gift to one lucky Cocoon Home blog reader.

Out And About: Observatory

Artist Nicole Rueda Watts of NYX Studio created a theatrical setting to showcase her handcrafted jewelry in her new shop:  Observatory (located in Cambridge, MA).   I was very excited to come across it while visiting the East coast.  At first, I was drawn to its mid-century furniture and accessories, but upon entering the shop, the feathers, beads and intricate wiring of Nicole’s jewelry collection really got my attention.  She displays them so artfully, that not only her talent as a jewelry designer stands out, but also her skills as an innovative merchandiser.  Take a look at few images I captured while there, I know they will make you want to stop in.

After a month-long trip along the Northeast, we have returned to our home in California [happily so!].  I'm looking forward to sharing another favorite store from our travels with you, one that became the inspiration for an East coast project.

Stay posted for more of our adventures!

A Feathered Affair

My feathered affair began in winter when I decided to make jewelry, and even though my beading attempts never fully materialized, feathers are very much still an obsession of mine.  They keep finding their way into Cocoon botanicals, a dedicated pin board and a very recent purchase.  Whether tucked into a lapel or wrapped as a delicate bouquet, the ethereal beauty of a feather is absolutely timeless.

How do you feel about feathers?

Decorating Details At The 2013 SF Decorator Showcase

Yesterday, I had the chance to visit the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase home which was just breathtaking.  While each room was unique in its composition, details of texture, pattern and color were fluidly played out in each individual space.   The combinations of patterns in wall coverings, textiles and tiles gave each room its own textural depth, making the tour not only a visual experience but a sensory one as well.  Take a look at several of my favorite images which highlight the mix of materials that made this year's Showcase Home a standout.

Many thanks to CC for hosting an unforgettable afternoon.
