Holiday Blues

This Christmas did not leave me feeling blue, quite the contrary.  I'm feeling utterly relaxed and content with the holiday season thus far, even though I've been strongly drawn to blue hues.  Whether used in a classic or modern way  blue tones give a space a cool, comfortable and surrendering effect.  Take a look at some of my favorite images:

Color Obsession

I recently took this photo of a succulent and have since become mildly obsessed with it's color and texture.   So much so that it has inspired the "theme" for my planters.  I most often planted 'yellow'...no surprise there.  This year, however,  I'm mixing burgundy and chartreuse by combining coleus, potato vine and clover.  Take a look at some inspiring 'pin's and watch for photos of the planters on Facebook.

What color (s) are you obsessed with?  I'd love to know.  To reference pin sources check out  Pinterest.

Color Obsession: Yellow

gardenia You 're familiar with my obsession with yellow from a previous 'Til Monday post.  Only recently have I come to know another blogger shares my obsession:  Jessica, from   Black. White. Yellow.  Her blog features accessories and spaces that combine our favorite colors.  Her site is a feast for my eyes.

Having one predominant accent color in the home unifies spaces making them flow into each other seamlessly.  My tiny home is carefully accented with the color yellow so as to not overdo it and also, because who knows what color mood will strike me next?

I put together a collection of my favorite yellow interiors and mixed in photos of my own yellow touches.

Color Mix: Sultry and Exotic

Even though winter has just began (at least for those of us on the East coast) we are quick to look for signs of warmer, brighter days.  Hence the color mix:  sultry and exotic.  On the runways the colors are worn as solids, in the  home they are layered with stripes, adorned with gold hardware and splashed into bold patterns.  A new season does not mandate an entire new interior, instead,  it nudges us to keep current with colorful touches in our pillows, our bedding, and even our botanicals.  I like to honor winter (even though it's clearly not my favorite)  by keeping our home in cozy textures and neutral hues until the end of March.   In April, the pillows, the throws and the bedding change up and the house tones brighten up.  Take a look at the color mix and some ideas on how this spring's hot colors can update  your interiors:

Color Obsession

My new color obsession is the blue of this Makita tool box I photographed  hanging around the house ever since we began our renovation.  I started looking for items in the color but found it a bit of a challenge because  it's a unique blue.  It's neither turquoise, aqua, nor baby blue.  It's Makita blue.  A blue that can be cooled or warmed depending on how and where you use it.  I hope to find a way to incorporate it into our new master bedroom or bath by mixing it with taupes and grays.  A tribute to the tool box used to create the new space.  Take a look at what I found.

I was reminded of Andrew Morgan's amazing talent with textiles while vacationing at the Ritz.  All of the beds are draped with his throws.  Years ago when Cocoon (the store) opened in Boston we hosted a trunk show for him.  Back then,  he was peddling his wares out of a duffle bag.  Congratulations on his success, he's so deserving!  His Peacock throw displays a great balance of color and design.  I particularly love the gray background.

When working with an accent color it's good to use it in other forms such as leather.   Room and Board's leather sofa in teal.

Hope you all had a great weekend!!
