Keeping Cool
I'm not a huge fan of ceiling fans but in this heat wave, I’ve become one. Take a look at some that are high in style and price and some that are not. When the mercury rises any fan will do.
I love the sleek design of the Artemis Fan-$499.95. Available in many colors and finishes, this fan can update any room while keeping it cool.
I'm going to install the Minka Air fan-$250. in my renovated master bedroom. It's simple design and price make it a perfect fit for the space.
I like the industrial look of Acero ceiling fan-$349.95. Powerful and quiet.
Below a few others that you may consider if you don't have the height for a ceiling fan or don't want to sacrifice your chandelier to air circulation.
Bed Bath and Beyond's Bionaire fan -$69.95 looks better in person and truly is silent. It takes up little floor space while providing a nice breeze.
The Bionaire window fan-$59.95 is not the prettiest thing but it's very effective. I just put one in my boys' bedroom and I can't believe how well it works.
Restoration Hardware's Allaire-$99-$149 fan is a classic.
My favorite fan, the vintage Vornado. I've had this fan for least 15 years before then it was my father's. He painted it canary yellow per my request. Maybe that’s when my obsession with yellow began. Anyway, even my sitter sings its praises...It's super powerful, extremely quiet, and so retro chic. Hope you all get some cool air.
Till Monday
This weeks Till Monday image comes to you from my very own home. After months of planning and re-planning the demolition for a new master bed and bathroom is going to begin tomorrow morning. Dust, dust, dust. You can never prepare enough for this type of work. So for the next 6-8 weeks a family of 5 will be sleeping together in the basement (a very cozy and stylish one). I'm looking forward to it all...bunking with the kids, seeing the design take shape and even the dust. I'll send along some before and after photos of the demo on Monday. Hope you all have a great weekend!!!
Room Inspiration
This week's room inspiration comes from this incredibly cute hand sewn sock owl by Jen Rossi of Katchen, a Cambridge based company. No owl is ever alike, but each offers beautifully picked vintage fabrics, colorful yarns, and signed and numbered tags. Truly an original gift.
Below is a child's space. At Cocoon Home Design our approach to creating a child's room is similar to any room we're asked to transform. Meeting the needs of the space while maintaining the style and aesthetic of the home is always our goal. Making sure that it's functional for nursing, sleeping, playing, as well as admiring the little one, IS important. Never overlooking the fact that the room needs to be comfortable, cozy and a bit whimsical. We choose pieces that can grow with your child and your home.
Take a look at how we do it.
This Peacock Dark rug is the foundation of the room. Creating a beautiful scene to walk and play on.
I love this hand painted chest of drawers from Restoration and Originals. You can use the top as a changing table and conveniently store diapers and creams in the first drawer.
I found this Storkcraft convertible crib at Walmart. I love the traditional lines, the expresso color and the functionality of it. See how it transforms from a crib to a daybed to a full size bed.
I love these sheets from Oilo in brown stripes. They remind me of camp sheets. Now add a vibrant colored blanket from Hudson and make a statement. See below.
A place to settle in and read to the little one. The Lunet Chair from Anthropologie.
Kartell's Stone Stool works as a table and extra seating while adding a contemporary touch to the room.
A soft touch for the lighting, this chandelier from Anthropologie reminds me of the legs on the owl. Remember to use dimmers for all the lights in all your rooms, especially in the baby's room. Add a few book shelves and the room is set. Let me know what you think.
The Almost House
This time last year, my husband and I were seriously considering a move to Kansas City. We decided to stay put, but if we hadn't, this would have been THE house. The French Normandy.
I have no regrets, but at night when I can't sleep, I decorate it. It truly is a beautiful house with history, personality and elegance. Take a look.
There was a time when we were ready and willing to take chances. With children, friends and family so dear to us, decisions need to be carefully thought out. There will always be other doors of opportunity opening for us. I do hope the house is occupied by a loving family that appreciates good design.......Hope you all had a great week-end!!!
