Scenes: Hawaii

We just returned from Hawaii.  It was our first visit,  but certainly not our last.  After surrendering to the island's atmosphere we totally got Hawaii's allure and plan to go back.   The warm temperature and subtle humidity were a welcomed change for us even after a mild California winter.

We relaxed, snorkeled, visited a volcano, hiked to a 40 ft waterfall, delighted in the lush landscape, an thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous luau.  It was both invigorating and informative.  The kindness and hospitality of the Hawaiian people is infectious and makes us want more.  Here are a few images from our recent stay on the Big Island:

Opulent and Lush: 70's Inspired Interiors

The cover of this Sunday’s NY Times Style Magazine caught my immediate attention, but it wasn’t until late last night that I had the opportunity to peruse through it.  The editor’s note describing this issue’s focus, the resurgence of 70’s style glamour in interiors, was an excellent introduction to what the contents would reveal.  After a long love affair with minimalist and mid-century modern décor, comfort, lush fabrics and shiny surfaces are making a come-back and I’m liking it.  Being a fan of mixed patterns, textures and occasional bling, I’d like to think that our home is already taking on the “of the moment” look.  Call it mid-century flair!

I collected some favorite examples of spaces that draw from the era’s opulent style.  You’ll find several examples of Kelly Wearstler’s work in which she combines patterns, bold accents and vintage furnishings, a modern take on the 70’s circular sofa, a sunken living room, some authentic spaces and, from this week’s Style magazine, Gerald and Betty Ford’s iconic bedroom, updated by the current owners, but not without paying homage to their home’s original design and décor.

The Way We Live: A Textile Designer's Home

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting textile designer Jennifer Sampou at her residence and studio.  While chatting about her work, family and artistry, I captured images of my favorite home to be featured thus far.

Jennifer is solely responsible for every design detail of her family’s amazing space.  An eclectic mix of rustic elegance, modern flair and classic touches make this home a true reflection of her distinct personal style.  You can witness firsthand the inspiration for her innate talent to create patterns and color combinations for her fabric lines as you walk through this beautiful space.  Carefully [albeit naturally], created vignettes, selected rugs and art speak to her love of travel, grounded in family and friends.

This home is abundant in warmth and focused on comfort, I could personally chill in it for hours.  So, my advice to you is:  sit back, take it all in and stay tuned for part 2 of this “The Way We Live.”

Here they are:  Cocoon Home’s new logo and site designed by creative extraordinaire, Dabito of Old Brand New.  After meeting him at The Creative Residency's Social Media Practicum last summer, I knew he was the one to rebrand Cocoon Home Design.  In just a few conversations about my work, my goals and my aesthetic, Dabito created a sophisticated, modern new logo.  Showcasing earthy elements, bold accents and mixed patterns, the new look of the website and business cards speaks perfectly to my design sensibilities. I couldn’t be any happier with the results.

Thank you, Dabito!

Hop on over to his site for the full story and let us know what you think!

Cocoon Home Update: New Clients, New Logo, New Site

It’s official: Cocoon Home is busier than ever with multiple design clients, an upcoming event, a new logo and site (coming soon), and a product soon to be revealed!  I’m a bit crazed , but loving every minute of it.  Each interior project is completely different from the others allowing me to source and shop at a variety of places: the Alameda Flea Market, HD Buttercup, Flora Grubb, Pottery Barn, DWR and Anthropologie among many others. My clients’ broad variety of styles and aesthetics [for sure] keep things interesting! The new logo and site are being created by Dabito of Old Brand New and I couldn’t be happier with his interpretation of Cocoon Home thus far. Stay tuned for the big reveal. Later this month, we’ll be hosting an event at our home featuring the work of Daniel Barbera of Australia and Cosentino, San Francisco. Lastly, the Cass Clutch, a 70′s inspired suede handbag, will make its debut in late Spring. So many wonderful things are happening at once!  I’m honored and grateful for the opportunity to help so many people create spaces that are uniquely their own while exercising my own creativity. I do love my job!!
